A few months back we shipped 8 boxes worth of sneakers to the local skate community in Uganda. Thanks to our man Andy for allowing us to get involved with his mission. When you buy one of these shirts you will be directly supporting the dreams & programing of the Ugandan Skateboard Union. Amidst a war- torn landscape, the union, founded by Jackson Miribu, provides youth healthy alternatives to daily Ugandan struggle through skateboarding. In a country torn by two decades of civil conflict where children make up a large section of the casualties, these kids are building a tangible alternative as well as a social center were orphans, and members of opposing tribes can come together over skating. In future months the union hopes to expand their park & to build an adjacent school & social center your purchase will allow them to do that. Learn more at here. For the last few months we've been keeping quiet, doing a little wok in the lab and working on a few treats that include a music & sound system set up that is now up and running in Huntington. For those of you that were around back in '94, you know that Sauce hosted a series of DJ in-store jams that included our own record shop in Bayshore. Working in conjunction with our Red Bull family (our utmost thanks and love) we're going to be filling this summer season with a not to be missed schedule that will include DJ workshops, unplugged guest performances and vinyl swap (yes you heard that correctly). A lot to catch up on...this past Saturday we got together with Sparrow Media and 200+ guests for a last minute benefit to support the tragedy in Haiti. Thanks to the efforts of our man Andy who brought in the acoustic chops of Long Island's own Envy On The Coast, Lights Resolve and Taking Back Sunday's own Matt Fazzi. A special shout to James Kennedy for his love. Fans and supporters poured into our Huntington location with much needed supplies and money donations that are now on their way to Haiti to support 5 families. RED BULL STRATOS | Mission To The Edge Of Space - Trailer

The latest groundbreaking project from our friends over at Red Bull.
You may just pass out from watching it. Talk about a rush...

The mission will take our renowned athlete, Felix Baumgartner, to at least 120,000 feet above the earth, to the very edge of Space. From there, he will attempt a stratospheric free fall jump - the longest in the history of man - and hopefully will become the first human to break the speed of sound with his own body. We are extremely excited about the possibilities of Red Bull Stratos, a mission to overcome limits which have existed for almost fifty years, ever since the heroic achievement of the young US Air Force test pilot, Joe Kittinger, with his 1960 ‘Excelsior’ mission.

Red Bull Stratos will attempt to make history and deliver valuable learnings for medical and scientific advancement that will aid the exploration of space in future years. In addition, a possible four world records are at stake. Felix will attempt to jump from higher, for longer, falling further and faster than any human before him. It is a complex and challenging undertaking, truly a step into the unknown. Red Bull and Felix have brought together the most outstanding group of scientists to take on this challenge, all leaders in their fields of physiology, aerospace medicine, engineering, aeronautics, stratospheric balloon flight and pressure suit development.

Nike SB drops their January Quickstrike pack that includes the "Dharma" Blazer High and the "Oceanic Airlines" Dunk High, both inspired by the show LOST in anticipation of its final season. Full size run at box price available at both our store locations.

The beige colorway draws inspiration from the uniforms by the fictional research group called the DHARMA Initiative. As part of SB's eco-friendly initiative, the sneaker includes a clever hit marked on the heel and the insole with the word “SHOE” in reference to the no frills supplies provided on the island.

The Dunk High goes bright this month with turqoise/germain blue and fuschia colorway, representitive of the ficticious airline "OCEANIC" Flight 815 that crashed on the mysterious island.

After many months working in conjunction with the Guardian Brain Foundation, we finally opened our upstairs gallery space in Huntington. Hosted by Ivan (UAF), beats by Nick Pepe and the help of 22 artists, we are currently featuring 40 pieces of artwork for sale. Works featured are from local, NYC and the Netherlands. We are proud to announce that 100% of all donations and the sale of the art will go to the Guardian Brain, which will help both adults, children and their families who cannot afford medical care, counseling as well as the daily neccesities that help to make their lives a little easier through these tough times. Original street art will be featured in a variety of mediums that will include: Limited prints, canvas, sculptures and one of a kind skate deck creations.

With much anticipation the November releases from Nike SB have arrived and almost gone in one full sweep. Before we had the chance to post up news about the much talked about and wanted "Gucci's", was as quick as they sold. There is still a small run left over at both our Bayshore and Huntington locations. Get 'em before they are gone forever. We have to admit that the colorway does stay true to the iconic brand.

Now, if you weren't able to cop your Gucci's, SB has also released the new "HUF" Blazer. Available in both a white and black colorway, the clean cut blazer is offered in a tone on tone swoosh canvas style, very reminicent to the "Chuck Taylor". The November apparel to match should be coming any day now . Stay tuned.

The dismal weather didn't slow things down, as the house was packed. Thank you to everyone who came out to support. The Nike Bellevue 3-in-1 Jacket features two layer of brushed flanel fabric, 10,000 mm waterproofing and breathability, fully taped seams, an adjustible hood and RECCO technology. The vest is made out of 2 layer brushed oxford fabric and features 600 goose down insulation to keep you extra warm on those cold days riding. Not only will you be warm, but properly flossed.

The latest prints from Upper Playground have just dropped and include a new Ralph Lauren stylized hoodie, as well as graphics from artist Sam Flores, Usugrow and Saber. The Different Spokes is a notable twist on the "Different Strokes" TV classic font just for all you cyclists with that drop crank philosophy. Available at both our Bayshore and Huntington shops.

Its official, the éS Game of Skate that we held this past Sunday in Bayshore was a success. It was one of the largest turn outs to be held so far, with 200 entries. "SHINGANIST" Line To Drop USUGROW

For those of you who are long time followers (and newly introduced) to
Upper Playground, you will know that we have been supporting and carrying the brand for quite some time. The brands main theme and focus has always been to educate the masses, by bringing awareness of its renound and emerging multi-media and street artists they collaborate with.

Usugrow is no exception, as countless customers have been inquiring with us in regards to more product from this Japanese artist. Well we are happy to report that we received the latest news from our good people over at Upper Playground about their newest partnership together. Usugrow will be dropping his new line entitled "Shinganist", which derives from the Japanese word "Shingan" (meaning mind's eye). It will be his first clothing line to launch in the U.S. on August 1st.

Shinganist will pull inspiration from underground Japanese lifestyle, as well showcase the works of guest artists and Usugrow himself. Upper Playground and Usugrow view the line as a vehicle to introduce a new generation of Japanese artists to the world.

Usugrow started drawing in 1993 for various hardcore metal bands, hip-hop groups, album covers, merchandise, clothing brands, shops, skate companies, whatever. Currently based in Tokyo, Japan his black and white illustrations are one of a kind, combining calligraphy with his drawings.

It's hard to believe that it has been over 15 years since we first opened our original shop in Bayshore. Indeed it has been a long time since our 'massive' last congregated!...

For 2009 we have created a new chapter to be added to our history books, and what feels to be a challenging future for Special Sauce. Many of you have grown up with us- some of you now having your own families...hopefully sharing some time capsule moments with them. It hasn't always been easy (can anyone honestly say it ever is?). Most will probably agree that this year will mark as being one of the most challenging yet. There will be those who love and hate you- sometimes both at the same time. We welcome all to critique with open arms.

We finally dropped our Opening party to celebrate the Special Sauce Flagship in Huntington Village. Last Thursday, May 21st we hosted a 3 hour (and of course went an extra hour) In-Store Mixer for friends & media . We kept things moving with an After-Party that started around 10PM at the Artful Dodger. Props to DJs: Myles, Big Chris, Dennis Fernando, Derek Sessions & Rob James for holding it down. The house was jumpin' and the space was packed solid!

With red carpet under foot (provided by our fam over at Extra Butter- many thanks for your support), guests were greeted through our doors with mood lit chandeliers, and camera's flashing courtesy of Tony "Memento" and Elixabet. To make sure that our snap-shooters had a proper photo-op backdrop, we made this an affair to be remembered by featuring a brand wall to showcase all 17 brand sponsors, created by the talented artist and graphic designer Twitch.

The evening's main course of beats were a blend of originals and breaks, mixed by our always friendly maestro DJ Nick Pepe, served with three times the gastronomic goodness of Josh, Josh, Josh. We were blessed to have a mix of chatter friendly faces (new & old) for the entire event that seemed to spill out the front door, while our Bboy/Bgirl fam kept the energy moving. A big shout to our floor rockers: Super Freeze, Ivan (Urban Action Figure), Leo, Smiles, Red Fox, Scuba, Static, Problems, Gabe (Charlemagne) and everyone else who came through....

To keep our guests from going hungry we served up a few tasty bites by candlelight, with spirits provided by ALCHEMIA Polish Vodka. Creator and owner Agata worked hands on with us in advance to craft four signature drinks by using Alchemia infused Wild Cherry and Crystal Clear flavors. (Nothing like a little shameless plug for our peeps!). We turned on the charm by serving everything in rock & highballer glassware. If you haven't tried this vodka- do so, you won't be disappointed!

Most of us by this time had our heads spinning with the turnout (WOW!). To thank everyone we had 125 gift bags properly prepared via RAW Creative PR. (Shout to Lady Smiles for all her efforts and endless hours helping to prepare those damn things!) The fellas & ladies walked away with gift product provided in Sauce bags and VANS totes. A major thanks to the brands that not only donated their product, but their time: Nike SB, sparkles by Cubannie Links, Upper Playground, Hellz Bellz ('always a crime for all seasons- thanks to the entire HB collective ;), Dedicated & Graffiti Magazine for being real, new music from Universal Music, Alison from Red Bull, Elwood, Nixon, Bula, RARE, Your's Truly Brand, Kweenz Destroy and lastly the talented Dana La Rock for supplying her promo CDs.

The good folks at Special Sauce partied hard last night to celebrate the opening of our newest Flagship Store in Huntington Village. Many of us are still feeling a little woozy but a whole lot of warm and fuzzy.

URBAN VIBES Exhibit Drops

This past Saturday we hosted the "Urban Vibes" show with the artist Semor.
Big ups to all those who made it out to support- it was truly a success.
This was the first event to be hosted in our new Huntington Village location.
The house was packed and the crowd was live, with sounds provided by our resident DJ Nick Pepe. A special thanks to all our fam who kept things moving- you know who you are!

For those that woke up late- the exhibit will be open to the public and running until May 16th. By request, those interested will be able to purchase the artwork showcased from the exhibition. ...and the winner is?...

Thanks to all those who made it out to the QUEENZ ARRIVE opening reception last Friday in Brooklyn, it was a blast! More so we has the chance to team up with its curator, host and artist Indie 184. It was a great opportunity to give back in a small way and be involved, as well as to contribute a special his and her raffle giveaway. You should have seen everyone's face (priceless). Especially those who missed out.

Within an hours time the gallery occupancy filled to capacity with guests spilling out the front door. Luckily the lingering heat in the air was easily put to the way side with complimentary free beer. Everyone showed up that night to support the artists works showcased that included: Fafi, Claw$, Klor, Nina and Siloette to name a few. Guests included photography and hip hop pioneers Charlie Ahearn (Wild Style), Henry Chalfant (Style Wars) and Martha Cooper. We had the chance to catch up with each of them and get their take on on street and graffiti culture- past and present. Be on the look out for something special to drop in the future.

The anticipation has been building around the NITRAID and SB collaboration, following up to their previous Air Force 1 release. Based out of Tokyo, the Japanese skate-themed inspired brand drops the Dunk Mid featuring: burgundy colored stiching and liner, premium black leather/suede blend and a signature digi-camo designed strap and heel. Additional mentions include the goldfish design insole. Peep the heat...

...Because we're chock full of information here's some more visual stimulation. Nitraid has also produced a movie with SB set to release on DVD soon.

NEW ARRIVALS: NIKE SB| April Release Pt. II

Get playful with the remaining SB tee's that include the "ICON WOODY"
in a red (previously shown in white|winter green), as well as
the "SOCK PUPPET" t-shirt in (white| red) and (lemonade|gray).

The final April sneaker styles include two Quickstrikes. The "KISSES" Blazer materials consist of a midwest gold canvas upper with a suede accent,
and an all over leopard pattern style made up of black lips.

The DUNK LOW Pro SB have a striking resemblance to the "Venoms" and the “Weiger”(based after Wieger Van Wageningen). The colorway combination is predominantly black with a grip tape style toe box and suede base with a white midsole and check.

The revamped Todd Jordan Dunk High was to release under the pseudonym Heaven's Gate, based on the San Diego religious cult led by Marshall Applewhite. Due to legalities, the original model was never produced the first time around- but instead had its colorway switched up and renamed the "Unheaven's Gate".

Our fam over in Germany cover the latest news to drop from the Rhein/Ruhr district and other regions of Europe.
